PFA Summer Excellence Camp Program 2006
Current and Former European Professional Players from the German Bundesliga Coming to Hampton Roads this summer
Newport News, VA (March 15, 2006) - "To have professional European soccer stars who have stadiums of fans sing songs in their honor, here in Hampton Roads, is entirely new."
Jeff Dominguez, PFA President and Marketing Director, announced the confirmation of five major professional soccer players coming to Hampton Roads this summer. In coordination with the launch of a new soccer academy, the Professional Football Academy, Marco Dehne, Alexander Eckel, Mario Neumann, Peter Suchy, and Ralf Ewen of the German 1st and 2nd Bundesliga will be displaying their professional soccer skills in person here in Hampton Roads.
The Summer Excellence Camp Program provides youth soccer players an incomparable soccer experience through exposure to the training methods used by European professional teams. These training methods will be taught to campers by current and former European professional players. This year, due to the World Cup 2006 in Germany, the camp will feature current and former players from the German Bundesliga, Germany’s top division. The format for training utilizes a logical progression of technical and tactical teaching. The camp intends to shift the perspective of how soccer is played, inspiring the campers to achieve a higher level of play.
"Young players will have the chance to work with and see up close the models of the game they should aspire to be," stated Dominguez. It is extremely rare for players in this country to see other "soccer" cultures, different ideas, and techniques. These players make their living playing the game at the highest level in front of 30,000-40,000 people on a regular basis. This is a tremendous opportunity for Hampton Roads."
